Hey Upper East Siders! If you are looking for an amazing cup of coffee paired with great vibes and a beautiful ambiance, then look no further. There are a ton of Upper East Side cafes that will give you that caffeine kick that you need while also serving as a delightful place to relax, work, or meet with friends.
Below is a list of our favorite Upper East Side coffee shops and cafes. Not only do these cafes serve some of the best coffee on the Upper East Side, but many of them also have a fantastic selection of pastries, food, and in some cases, wine and cocktails.
Best Upper East Side Cafes and Coffee Shops
Hutch & Waldo
Hutch and Waldo is an Australian-style cafe offering breakfast (brekkie), sandwiches (sandos), bowls, juice, smoothies, and coffee.
Their cafe is decorated beautifully and gives off a chill summer vibe, year-round. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. In the summer, they even have light sprinkler fans set up outdoors to help you keep cool.
Hutch and Waldo is located on 81st Street off 2nd Avenue.
Maman
Maman is a cafe and bakery with 18 different locations throughout NYC. Their Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie was named one of Oprah’s “Favorite Things” in 2017. In addition, they also serve great coffee, pastries, and food. We love their “Hummus Tartine” which is an open-faced sandwich served on two perfect slices of sourdough.
Their Upper East Side location is decorated beautifully with rustic decor and plenty of fresh greenery. In addition to their coffee and food, Maman recently started serving cocktails, wine, and beer.
Innocent Yesterday
Innocent Yesterday is a vegan cafe and bakery located on East 77th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.
You cannot miss their striking blue facade, and upon entering, you will notice that every inch of the cafe is decorated just as beautifully as the exterior.
They have strong wifi and both indoor and outdoor seating. We love their lavender latte and vegan bacon, egg and cheese croissant. Innocent Yesterday is a must-visit Upper East Side cafe.
Eat Pretty
Eat Pretty serves some of the prettiest coffees and pastries in all of New York City. In addition to beautiful coffee, Eat Pretty also serves a variety of food items including tacos, paninis, salads, omelettes, bagels, and soup.
You cannot miss this Upper East Side cafe, as it usually features a giant pink teddy bear sitting on the front bench. They also have a beautiful selection of pink outdoor seating options.
Eat Pretty is located on East 83rd Street between York and East End Avenue.
Ella’s Cafe Espresso and Wine Bar
Ella’s Cafe is an espresso and wine bar offering a great selection of coffee, wine, food, and baked goods.
They have cute indoor and outdoor seating options. In addition to surviving great food and drinks, this Upper East Side coffee shop also hosts fun events such as Karaoke Nights.
Ella’s Cafe is located on 2nd Avenue and East 76th Street.
Madame Bonte Cafe
Madame Bonte is an Upper East Side cafe that has fantastic coffee, pastries and sandwiches.
In addition to coffee, they offer wine, beer, and espresso martinis.
Madame Bonte has 2 locations:
- 2nd Avenue between 94th and 95th
- 84th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue (this location has a large downstairs seating area and backyard patio)
Variety Coffee Roasters
If you are looking for an Upper East Side cafe to work from or study, then Variety Coffee Roasters is the perfect spot.
Variety Coffee Roasters is located on 85th Street and Lexington. They make some of the best coffee on the Upper East Side as well as offer a variety of pastries.
They have strong wifi and a lot of seating and outlets, which makes this a popular place to work and study. It tends to be crowded, so arrive early if you want to grab a table.
Miss Madeleine
Miss Madeleine is an amazing French bakery located on 82nd and 1st. They have a variety of croissants, pastries, cakes, and sweet and savory snacks to choose from.
The building is painted bright pink and decorated with pink flowers, so be sure to get a cute photo while you are there!
Stella & Fly
Stella & Fly is a coffee shop & wine bar located on 1st Avenue between 88th and 89th Street.
They have wifi and a ton of seating. In the evenings they have special events such as trivia nights, live music, and DJ’s. This is one of our favorite Upper East Side coffee shops to visit when meeting up with friends.
Ralph’s Coffee
Ralph’s Coffee is an Instagrammable cafe located at the Ralph Lauren flagship store on Madison Avenue and East 72nd Street.
They offer fantastic coffee and baked goods in an a retro-inspired setting.
